A European engineering group sought to prioritise energy infrastructure market entry opportunities in the UK and Ireland.

Damona carried out a Market Attractiveness and Market Accessibility (MACA) assessment across four selected areas: transmission and distribution, industrial process decarbonisation, behind-the-meter power networks, and the transport and storage of gas, CO₂ and hydrogen. The UK and Ireland were assessed separately, while shared clients, suppliers and projects were identified as potential cross-border opportunities.

The assessment covered:

  • Market and project mapping: Review of the dynamics in each sector, including major end users, developers, current projects and expected opportunities in both countries.
  • Commercial visibility: Assessment of publicly available project budgets, expenditure plans, procurement routes and major contracting frameworks to identify where opportunities could arise.
  • Supply chain and competition: Mapping of leading suppliers, potential partners and competitors, with attention to their capabilities, relevant contracts and market positions.
  • Market conditions: High-level review of applicable regulation, sector risks and barriers that could affect entry or expansion.
  • Opportunity prioritisation: Scoring of each sector against weighted criteria for market attractiveness and accessibility, placing opportunities into priority, option, opportunistic or monitor categories.
  • Strategic recommendations: Use of the MACA findings, PESTLE analysis and competitive assessment to identify practical approaches to market entry and growth.

The energy infrastructure market entry assessment gave the client a clearer view of where demand was developing, which opportunities matched its capabilities, and where access would require further partnerships or investment. It provided a structured basis for focusing business development efforts across the UK and Ireland.
